Fix Recommendation

Configure RHEL 8 to restrict usage of ptrace to descendant processes by adding the following line in a dropfile, in the "/etc/sysctl.d" directory with the following commands:

Create the dropfile if it doesn't already exist:
$ sudo vi /etc/sysctl.d/99-ptrace-restrict.conf

Add the following line to the file:
kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1

The system configuration files need to be reloaded for the changes to take effect. To reload the contents of the files, run the following command:

$ sudo sysctl --system

Check Contents

Verify RHEL 8 restricts usage of ptrace to descendant processes with the following commands:

$ sudo sysctl kernel.yama.ptrace_scope

kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1

If "kernel.yama.ptrace_scope" is not set to "1", is missing, or commented out, this is a finding.
