Fix Recommendation

Configure the SUSE operating system to generate an audit record for all uses of the "init_module" command.

Add or update the following rules to "/etc/audit/rules.d/audit.rules":

-a always,exit -F arch=b32 -S init_module -F auid>=1000 -F auid!=4294967295 -k module-load
-a always,exit -F arch=b64 -S init_module -F auid>=1000 -F auid!=4294967295 -k module-load

The audit daemon must be restarted for the changes to take effect.

# sudo systemctl restart auditd.service

Check Contents

Verify the SUSE operating system generates an audit record for all uses of the "init_module" command.

Check that the following command call is being audited by performing the following command to check the file system rules in "/etc/audit/audit.rules":

# sudo grep -i init_module /etc/audit/audit.rules

-a always,exit -F arch=b32 -S init_module -F auid>=1000 -F auid!=4294967295 -k module-load
-a always,exit -F arch=b64 -S init_module -F auid>=1000 -F auid!=4294967295 -k module-load

If both the "b32" and "b64" audit rules are not defined for the "init_module" syscall, this is a finding.
